Frequently asked questions
What is the gratuity formula?
Gratuity = (15 ÷ 26) × last drawn monthly salary (basic + DA) × completed years of service. 15/26 represents 15 days' wages out of a 26-working-day month, per year served.
Who is eligible for gratuity?
Employees who complete 5 continuous years with the same employer (the 5-year condition is waived in case of death or disablement). Service beyond 6 months in the final year rounds up to a full year.
Is there a maximum gratuity amount?
Yes — ₹20 lakh under the Payment of Gratuity Act. Employers can pay more voluntarily, but the excess has different tax treatment.
