Exponent Calculator

Raise any base to any power, including negative and fractional exponents.

210 = 1,024

Raises the base to the power of the exponent (baseexp). Exponents can be negative (reciprocal) or fractional (roots) — for example 2-1 = 0.5 and 90.5 = 3. Calculated in your browser.

Raise a base to a power (base to the exponent). Works with negative exponents, which give reciprocals (2⁻¹ = 0.5), and fractional exponents, which give roots (9^0.5 = 3). For small whole exponents it also shows the expanded multiplication. Runs in your browser.

How to use the Exponent Calculator

  1. Enter the base.
  2. Enter the exponent (power) — it can be negative or a decimal.
  3. Read the result and copy it.

Frequently asked questions

What does a negative exponent mean?

A negative exponent is the reciprocal of the positive power: 2⁻³ = 1 ÷ 2³ = 1/8 = 0.125.

What does a fractional exponent mean?

A fractional exponent is a root: x^(1/2) is the square root of x, and x^(1/3) is the cube root. So 27^(1/3) = 3.
