Frequently asked questions
What is the ROI formula?
ROI = (final value β initial investment) Γ· initial investment Γ 100. A result of 35% means you gained 35% on top of what you put in.
What's the difference between ROI and annualized return?
Total ROI is the whole-period gain. Annualized return (CAGR) converts it to an equivalent steady yearly rate, so a 35% return over 3 years is about 10.5% per year β the fair way to compare different holding periods.
Can ROI be negative?
Yes. If the final value is below the initial investment, ROI is negative, showing a loss.
